The task of reducing carbon emissions is a very tough one, for politicians and the rest of us alike, but it is not an impossible one. We need to put our fears aside and take the plunge into a new way of seeing and doing things.

In tackling the challenge of climate change we need to abandon old prejudices, cross borders into unfamiliar territory, and speak to our enemies. This is a task for everyone.

Getting ordinary people to accept scientific advice on something as complex and hard to see as climate change will not be an easy task. Most of all, it will require politicians to be aware of the science and committed to acting on it.
